Church Politics, Spiritual Disagreement and Friendship: Theological (and Other) Differences During A Weekend With Friends

What happens when Christian friends grow in different theological and political directions? This reflective essay explores church politics, spiritual disagreement, faith deconstruction, friendship, bias, and Christian unity. Drawing from a reunion with former church friends, the author considers how believers can remain in relationship despite differences over Scripture, gender, sexuality, immigration, church leadership, politics, and other deeply held convictions. Through honest conversation, humor, grace, and the work of the Holy Spirit, this story asks whether Christians can disagree without allowing disagreement to destroy friendship or belonging. Ultimately, it offers a hopeful vision of Christian community rooted in Christ, love, humility, and unity.
